Poems
Appearing in 1987 in The Conch, a literary
magazine at St Stephen’s College, which
Amol edited, was a poem titled Thirst, inspired
by reports of a widespread drought at that
time.
To a Rain
God unknown
From a pained womb unsown
A frantic shrill, spiraling lament
Knocking at the nebulous ferment
For few soft drops, pristine pure
A soaked swab-sop, comfort cure
To awaken a startled hiss of life
On this speck singed with blisters
rife
Unsteady in her feeble, wobbly swoon
This your, uncared for, parched spittoon
